Sony Adds More Color to the PSP
For PSP worshippers, I’m sure you’ll like the news that Sony has in fact increased the color variants for their PSP via the ‘Carnival Colors’ collection. From 5th of March 2009 onwards, you wouldn’t be plagued with the decision on either to purchase the black or white PSP for your kids, but you’ll have other color selections, such as blue, red, yellow and green.

On the other hand, the Carnival Colors PSP collection is available for purchase on March in Japan with a tax inclusive price of ¥19,800 or about $223. And if you want larger storage for your PSP, just slap another $56 bucks for the 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo version – and it also comes with a PSP pouch, wrist strap and cloth bundle.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy the ‘extended range’ of PSP colors. Take a look at the snapshot of the Carnival Colors PSP variants:

Exploding Mobile Phone Batteries
To all mobile phone users out there: Beware! Apparently, if you use some cheap and inexpensive mobile phone battery ‘alternatives’ you should beware that some of these batteries might explode without giving you any signs of warning!

We’ve seen so many cases whereby laptop batteries swelled unexpectedly and some even caught fire after extended usage. Established electronics manufacturers such as Dell or even Sony always recall these bad products – but if you purchase an ‘alternative’ you wouldn’t know what surprise might await you after prolonged usages.

Apparently, a man shopping at a Lenovo store in China was killed recently after his mobile phone located in his chest pocket exploded unexpectedly. The mobile phone explosion severed his major arteries which led to massive blood loss. Of course, there’s no word on which model or phone battery which was involved but this adds up to other ‘high profile mobile phone explosion cases’ worldwide.

Let this be a lesson to those who are planning to fork out some hard earned cash to purchase ‘shady alternative products’ in the market.

Think twice before you buy!

Intel Chairman Craig Barrett Retires
For those who don’t know who Craig Barrett is, he’s the chairman for Intel for the past 35 years whereby you can see how Intel’s business boomed despite unfavorable economic history such as the dotcom bubble which burst in 1997. Barrett is one of the most recognizable figures in the micro processing industry as he has always been the helmsman for Intel since 1974, which guided the company to become a world renowned micro processor manufacturer.

Craig Barrett would be stepping down voluntarily at age 70 and his will pass the baton to his successor, Jane Shaw, in due’s time. I believe that Jane Shaw should require tons of luck as the economic environment is very challenging at present time, with even the second largest micro processor manufacturer, AMD, shutting down one of their plants in the Philippines.

Here’s a tribute to Craig Barrett:

Dell Mini 12
You might be wondering how Dell crammed up all the ‘stuff’ into such a tiny little device called the Dell Mini 12 netbook. Well I am also an owner of an ultraportable, and I did open up my entire notebook’s casing just to see what’s inside. Surprisingly, the motherboard for such ultraportable devices is so small, that you might start wondering whether it’s possible to create such tiny electronics.

I managed to locate a snapshot of what’s inside the Dell Mini 12 and I can say that Dell did a pretty good job organizing their Mini 12. If you take a look at the snapshot below, you can see that everything is tightly fitted inside the Mini 12 and there’s not room to spare for other additional ‘tweaks’ for the netbook.

Take a look at a snapshot for the Dell Mini 12 ‘innards’:

IBM Sequoia Supercomputer
Apparently, IBM has already commence their next generation supercomputer program – whereby they will come out with a 20 petaflop supercomputer which is practically twenty times faster than the current record holder, a 1.105 petaflops supercomputer.

We all know that IBM did a pretty good job in their past PR events whereby they challenged world chess player, Kasparov, for a match of chess with one of their supercomputer, the Deep Blue. Deep Blue got the last laugh while Kasparov walked away with $1 million dollars – I still think it’s a great win-win situation.

The new supercomputer, codenamed the Sequoia supercomputer, is scheduled for completion by 2012. It will be utilizing 16 cores processor chips which will be featuring a 45-nm processing technology and can contain up to 4,096 processors per rack. The total amount of processors contained in the Sequoia supercomputer would be 1.6 million cores which would be assisted by 1.6 petabytes of memory.

This is serious hardware that we talking about. The end product would be used to simulate nuclear explosions and I think that with so much processing juice available, you can simulate multiple nuclear explosions all together.

Cheers to IBM!
