| Worlds Smallest Working Fuel Cell | | | |
| Written by admin | | Friday, 30 January 2009 | The fuel cell technology is in the limelight these days as leading manufacturers are trying to introduce this revolutionary technology out into the market, which has the potential to make normal batteries obsolete.
In fact, University of Illinois researchers have come up with their world’s smallest working fuel cell model which measures 3 mm x 3 mm x 1 mm in diameter. The fuel cell contains 4 layers: water reservoir, think membrane, a metal hydride chamber and electrodes.
However, don’t expect such tiny fuel cell to power your mobile phones or your laptops, but for such a tiny fuel cell, it can product 0.7 volts and a 0.1 milliamp current for about 30 hours. Newer fuel cells produced by the same group of researchers boasted 1 milliamp of current rather than a mere 0.1 milliamp.
Personally, I believe that you can always strap a couple of these fuel cells together and create a gigantic fuel cell battery, which you can use to power up your mobile phones, laptops or possibly your entire home in the near future!
Take a look at the world’s tiniest fuel cell:
| | AMD Phenom II Overclocked to 6.5GHz | | | |
| Written by admin | | Monday, 26 January 2009 | For those who lament that the latest AMD processor is no match for Intel’s Core i7 technology should reassess the data that they got earlier. Apparently, a team of overclockers managed to overclock the Phenom II processor from 3.85GHz to a whopping 6.5GHz using specialized ‘overclocking environment’.
The trick that these overclockers used was utilizing a liquid nitrogen and liquid helium cooling system which ‘chilled’ the micro processor to minus 232 degrees Celsius. The chip is then pushed to the limit, which apparently reached 6.5GHz in clock speed. What’s even more interesting is the fact that the overclocked processor recorded a whopping 45,474 3DMark05 score which practically beats everything else in the market – flat out.
On the other hand, the public was there to bear witness of the event – marking a huge milestone for the overclockers, and AMD of course.
So anyone wants to purchase a liquid nitrogen cooling system to overclock your Phenom II processors?
| | China Tian Gong Space Station Program | | | |
| Written by admin | | Friday, 23 January 2009 | Apparently, China has their own space station program en-route to be launched by 2010. The Tian Gong Space Station or rather ‘Heavenly Place’ space station is set to be completed by 2015 with 3 modules attached – Tian Gong 1, Tian Gong 2 and Tian Gong 3.
The Chinese government unveiled their space station program during a TV special, which was celebrating Chinese New Year this year. During the TV special, a miniature model of the actual space station module begun to surface giving the audience an overview on how the space station would look like.
I believe China’s space station program is somewhat interesting as they would be the third nation in the world, after the United States and the former USSR, to place a space station in earth’s orbit.
I also believe that should the space station program materialize, this would mean that there would be thousands of job opportunities created by the Chinese government, and hence slowing down the economic downturn in China.
Take a look at the Tian Gong:
| | Microsoft Slashing 5,000 Jobs | | | |
| Written by admin | | Tuesday, 20 January 2009 | Even the world’s richest software company, Microsoft, can’t take the pressure from the global recession. Apparently, the software giants have made plans to slash 5,000 jobs for the next 18 months. The job cut would mainly focus in the research and development, information technology, marketing, sales, finance, legal, and human resources department. And as for those who aren’t in the ‘outsourced category’ you can be sure that you are pretty safe from being slashed by the software giant.
I believe that Microsoft is taking this ‘opportune’ moment to weed out bad apples in their organization. I’m sure that there are simply so many redundant workers in the organization as most corporations indulge themselves with a ‘hiring spree’ during better economic times – they would mainly focus on ‘quantity’ rather than ‘quality’ workers.
On the other hand, I believe that the next Windows Operating System set to be released middle of this year, namely the Windows 7, would somehow boost Microsoft’s sale, despite gloomy economic forecasts. According to beta testers, Windows 7 is actually many times better when compared to Vista and it doesn’t gobble up all your resources during usage.
I think that the Windows 7 is ideal for older generation PCs, netbooks as well as ‘the perfect update’ for current Vista users.
| | Written by admin | | Saturday, 17 January 2009 | Intel’s Core i7 has been the center piece of the media ever since its launch last year. The technology contain in the Core i7 is revolutionary – even AMD’s latest processing solution couldn’t match its processing power.
Nevertheless, if you are looking for a laptop which utilizes the Intel Core i7 processor, you should definitely take a look at Clevo laptops. In fact, they have already planned to launch several laptop variants out in the market which utilizes the 2.66, 2.93 and 3.2GHz Core i7 processors.
Some of the other basic hardware specification includes:
Three 500GB hard drives which total 1.5TB of disk storage space 8GB DDR3 RAM NVIDIA G280 GPU Blu-ray burner 17-inch D900F display 11.9-pound in weight
Clevo has set the launch date for their Core i7 laptops to May the first, 2009. On the other hand, there isn’t any news on the pricing of these laptops – I can assure that you will be paying a very high premium for the Core i7 laptops.
Here’s a photo of the Clevo laptop:
| | Americans Saving More During Difficult Times | | | |
| Written by admin | | Tuesday, 13 January 2009 | According to a survey conducted economists, they found out that Americans are actually saving more money during these tough economic environment. The government confirmed the findings by reporting that the American’s savings rate increased by 2.9 percent in the last three months for 2008.
I believe that the general public has switched their mindset to the ‘paradox of thrift’ mindset as the media blasted out grim economic data, prompting them to do something for themselves, such as saving money for rainy days.
On the other hand, I also believe the latest ‘savings trend’ has created a domino effect in the economy. As more people saved money in their banks and refrained themselves spending unnecessarily, the overall consumer expenditure falls sharply and you can see corporations projecting grim forecasted sales data for the next couple of months. This indirectly fuels the chain effect to the point that it has created a global meltdown in the entire economy.
Of course, I do not encourage people to spend freely at present time, but I do wish that the media should project a better overall economic outlook to the public, rather than projecting negative ones, which practically condemns your future generation’s quality of life.

On the other hand, the all new ASUS Eee PC 1000HE features superb none stop usage as the extended battery could last well up to 9 and a half hours! On the other hand, ASUS Eee PC 1000HE also comes with pretty decent specifications for a netbook.

| | South Koreans to Enjoy 1Gbps Web Connection Speed by 2012 | | | |
| Written by admin | | Tuesday, 06 January 2009 | South Koreans might be the only few to enjoy extremely high speed internet access by 2012. Currently the world record breaker remains with Sweden's Sigbritt Löthberg, but the move to create 1Gbps internet speed would be a baby step for South Koreans to join the gigabyte club.
The government is committed to invest $24.6 billion dollars to materialize this dream. On the other hand, the move to revolutionize South Korea’s internet access would also help create 120,000 jobs in the process. I believe with so much money invested into the new broadband infrastructure, this would somehow stimulate South Korea’s economy to avoid the inevitable global recession.
What’s even more interesting is the fact that wireless broadband would also be enhanced in the process. The new infrastructure would allow wireless broadband connection to up to 10Mbps, and that’s practically ten times faster than their current WiFi internet access speed.
Also, high definition TV consumers can expect to enjoy sixteen times clearer pictures than the present HDTV services.
That’s a whole lot of goodies by just upgrading their internet infrastructure. Thumbs up for the South Korean government!
